How to Celebrate the birthday of someone you've loss

My mom died in November 2012 and I swear it feels just like yesterday. Eveyday that passes is another day I've had to live withouther. But the memories I have stored in my heart will never die. Last week was her birthday. She would have made 53 years old. Who knew she wouldn't be here to enjoy that. My mom was always so full of life and boy did she enjoy life to the fullest. She was always able to make you smile in moments where you didn't want to even think about smiling. It’s so hard to live in a world without her. I miss her everyday, but the woman I knew wouldn't want me to sit around and cry she would want to be celebrated. So every year I try to do something to celebrate her on her birthday. If you’ve loss a loved one then my heart and prayers go out to you. I know that “have you ever" feeling all to well. I’ll try not to make you cry with this post. Hopefully I’ll get a smile out of you. I’m going to share with you 4 ways to celebrate your deceased loved one on their birthday.

Balloon Release

This year we decided to celebrate my mom's birthday by doing a balloon release. We wrote our sentiments on ballons and let them fly high. My mom's favorite color was purple so I purchased purple balloons. My husband, kids and I all wrote our own little message to her and released the balloons into the air. The kids loved watching the ballons take off. My son said “ maw maw is gonna get mine first.” He was so excited. So if you have kids they’ll love this.

Do something they would love

Celebrate your loved one's birthday by indulging in their favorite hobby. My mom loved to play Bingo. It was her favorite pastime. So as a way to celebrate her I go to the bingo hall for a game of bingo in her memory. Although I don’t go often, when I’m there I feel so close to her. Try and think of the things your loved one enjoyed and do those things in remembrance of them. Think of it as treating them to a special birthday date.

Decorate their Grave

I mean what's a birthday without decorations? Celebrate your loved one by decorating their graves. You can use flowers, balloons, etc. Make them feel celebrated on their special day by decorating their grave.

Have a Party

I haven’t done this one yet, but one year I want to get my family together and just celebrate the woman who was the glue for us. Nothing too big but, cake, her fave foods , drinks and family. I’d imagine we’d dance to her favorite songs, talk about our favorite memories and celebrate that woman we all miss so much.

It’s always hard when you lose someone you love. Sometimes the pain is too hard to bare. Rest in the fact that God said to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Feel all the feels and then when you're all done celebrate your loved one!

What are some things you do to celebrate your beloved's birthday?
