3 ways to have a better Wash Day for your toddler.

Hey Mama, I see you out here slaying motherhood. Have you ever felt like you were slaying motherhood and then you have to do some task that makes you feel like you’ve completely failed? Well for me that task is washing my daughter’s hair. If your toddler cooperates during this dreaded practice, you go girl. Since the beginning of time moms have had to get their minds right to do their little girl’s hair. I'm just saying I feel you sis and I have found some tricks to make your life easier when it comes to this subject. Does your little girl have a total fit at the dreaded words, “it's time to get your hair washed?” I know I'm not the only one who feels like Sofia from the Color Purple when it’s wash day. “All my life I had to fight.” The struggle is real in my household. My little girl would totally lose it. Her loosing it causes me to lose it and all the testosterone in our home wants us to just go away. If you don't go through this and your child loves to get their hair done, I am expressing pure jealousy towards you right now. If you're like me and you wish you never have to touch that child's hair again; listen up! I have discovered some tips and tricks to get the job done. My 2 year old goes crazy on wash day. It would take my husband, my son and myself to hold the girl down sometimes. And guess what, she's only 2. She would grow Hulk like strength at the sound of running water. My, my, my how times have changed. And Here's how:

1. Wash her hair while she's tired. You heard me right. I have achieved my best washes when she falls asleep mid wash. She's so tired that she can't/won't fight me and just lets it happen. I always thought this would be harder but, it works. I get to maneuver her head anyway I need to with no complaints. I love getting my hair washed, it is very soothing. But, not for my little princess. When she is tired this has become a great way to put her to sleep. It’s a win/win because you can get the job done and the little monster is put to sleep. Lol

2. Sing songs. I have tried EVERYTHING to make wash day go as smoothly as possible. One day I just started singing lullabies and to my suprise my daughter was all for it. We sung everything from, old Mc Donald to baby shark and she enjoyed every single minute. Sister girl didn't even realize I was washing her hair.

3. Utilize their favorite toy. Another way I get my little girl to calm down and get her washed is by allowing her to bring along one of her favorite toys, her baby doll or her latest favorite gadget, the cell phone. Sometimes we pretend to wash baby's hair. She loves it. I think it makes her feel like a big girl. On the other hand, sometimes that just doesn't work. I’d be lying if I said the child isn't stubborn lol. But, what I find to work is allowing her watch YouTube videos while getting her hair washed. Let me tell you this has been the best and most effective technique. She “Johnny, Johnny's” ( side note if don't know what Johnny Johnny is God bless you.) While I wash her hair with ease.

These techniques have been tested over time. I find each of them to work at different times. Let's face it toddlers are very temperamental so some trial and error is needed. As for me one of these three has been working every time. Try them out on your next wash day and let me know how it goes.

How are wash days for your toddler? Do you have other techniques that work for you?
