The Sweet Life With Taylor Moore

The Sweet Life With Taylor Moore

I am pretty much drooling over the deliciousness that is Grey Bird Baking Co. Aside from the company's beautiful name, there is the beautiful owner, Taylor Moore. She is every bit of black girl magic. Taylor took a sweet leap into entrepreneurship and Grey Bird Baking Co. was born. I got a chance to speak with her about her business and it's only right I share with yall this month's “you got it, girl.” I can't promise I'll share my sweets though.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello!  My name is Taylor Moore, the owner of Grey Bird Baking Co. I decided to take a leap from my life as a scribe program manager and an aspiring physician to establish my company eight months ago.

What inspired the Grey Bird Baking Co. Brand?

Grey Bird Baking Co. is largely inspired by my family. Not only do they support me unconditionally, but they are also my original taste testers!

Did you always dream of owning your own bakery? (Or was this something you fell into)

I have always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur and owning a baking company was definitely the first business I wanted to establish.

What do you love most about being a baker/business owner?

It’s super tough to pick one! My favorite part about being a baker is cultivating ideas, bringing them to life, and watching people enjoy them as much as I do! When it comes to business overall, I love creating relationships with clients and other business owners!

I have to ask, being surrounded by such sweet deliciousness, how do you stay fit?

This is such a great question. I usually try to keep up a steady workout, but I've been inconsistent for the last month. (LOL) It’s super difficult because I do taste everything I bake, but as long as I manage my time well and stick to my routines, I am able to get a few miles in during the week to combat to endless grams of sugar I consume.

What would you say has been your greatest challenge in business?

My greatest challenge in business has been maintaining balance. I’m a Virgo - affectionately known for being all work and no play. That definitely holds true for me. I often have to force myself to put down phones, close computers, and step out of the kitchen. To me, there’s always something that can be done. But balance and self-care are extremely important. Without it, I couldn’t sustain my business and would undoubtedly run myself ragged!

How do you keep going even on the difficult days?

I get through difficult days by just myself that difficult days are apart of life, and I've learned to appreciate that there are lessons in the harder days. Sushi, my favorite food, always helps brighten any day!

You are real-life black girl magic, what advice would give anyone out there wanting to start their own baking company?

Thank you so much! If I were talking to anyone who wanted to start a business of any kind, I would suggest that they do the research.

Where do you see your business in the next 5 years?

Having a brick and mortar location for Grey Bird Baking Co. is one of the main goals that I would like to achieve in the next five years. Hopefully, there will be much more to come!
